Life is made up of moments and experiences. These create memories. Like cobblestones on a path, they create a roadmap of our journey. Each life journey is entirely different from one person to the next. But we eventually all cross paths in what life calls “the human experience.” Life has plenty of experiences. These ones define our human experience and make for defining moments.

Education

Education is the path to enlightenment. It conveys to us Earth’s history, its peoples’ progress, and their transgressions against one another. Education is where I learned my identity, world geography, penmanship, and love of history and philosophy.

Being educated is the greatest neutralizer. It enables you to know your worth and ask for it.

College was the best gift I could give myself. I remember at nine years old speaking out loud that I would be attending college. Knowing full well that nobody in my immediate or even extended family had graduated from high school in the United States yet.

I recall when I was weeks away from graduation. I met with my college advisor one last time. It was peaceful. She was so kind and gracious to me over the years. Professor Stirling looked up and asked: “So what did you learn?” The phrase came from within me as my inner voice spoke: the precondition to self-liberation is a solid foundation of a college education.
