Stop Saying “So Busy” (You Are Not) We go on autopilot and let life take over. Then we run into an old friend and say, “I’ve been so busy.” My response: “I’m sorry your life is so out of control.” You can hear the brakes screech. Their head snaps. I heard you say your life is so constant you cannot breathe. I am sorry for that. What are you so preoccupied with? Any amazing projects, ventures, or life milestones? We all get 168 hours a week. Same allocation for everyone. Most adults work forty-plus of those. Then we burn an obscene chunk of the rest on mindless TV and scrolling. Weekends fly. Sunday 8 pm hits and the cycle restarts. You do not have to repeat that cycle. Work full-time, sleep eight hours a night, and you still have about 72 hours a week left. That is time to invest in yourself, your family, your career, your friends, your future. You decide. Invest in your health. Your mind. Your spiritual well-being. Whatever matters to you. So when I ask “How have you been?” answer confidently and proudly. “I have been investing time with my family and volunteering with a non-profit I believe in.” I will say, “Awesome. So happy to hear.” You will notice the difference in their tone and demeanor: happiness. That is what happens when you take control and put your intentions first because they matter to you. The conversations get better. Eyes light up. Smiles spread. Why? Because they shared what truly brings them alive. Something they care deeply about. Now it is your turn. Share your story. Have a real conversation about what is essential in your life. Watch the friendship grow. You now have a meaningful connection. One challenge. Take a bold step forward and ask how you can help them. Odds are they will offer support, or know someone who can. Meaningful connections start with genuine conversations and active listening.
